Charity poker tourney:The Watch City VFW is having a Texas Hold 'Em poker tournament from 2 p.m. to midnight Saturday, July 17, and Saturday, July 24. This event is open to the public. The Watch City VFW is located at 1601 Weld Road in Elgin, just west of McLean Boulevard. For details, see rockfordcharitablegames.com.National Night Out:Elgin's National Night Out celebration will be from 6 to 9 p.m. Aug. 3. Last year, more than 40 groups participated in the event in which residents strengthen partnerships with police.Museums offer adventure:Nearly 60 museums, nature centers and historical sites are offering kids a chance to win prizes by visiting them in the 19th annual Passport to Adventure Program sponsored by the Kane DuPage Regional Museum Association. Children 4 to 12 can pick up a passport at any participating organization and get a stamp for each site they visit. Kids who visit five sites by Labor Day receive a certificate of achievement. Those who visit seven sites also will receive a prize, and may be eligible for an additional incentive by returning their passport book to the location where they received it. For details, see kdrma.org.District 300 offers free meals:Community Unit District 300 is offering free meals this summer to eligible residents 18 and younger as well as people over 18 who are enrolled in a state-approved program for the mentally or physically disabled. Free meals will be available at Dundee-Crown High School, Carpentersville Middle School, Lakewood School, Golfview Elementary School, Parkview Elementary School, Perry Elementary School and the deLacey Family Education Center.
