Public welcome to U-46 school board meeting

Board meetingbull; The U-46 Board of Education meets at 7 p.m. Monday in Room 140 at the Educational Services Center, 355 E. Chicago St., Elgin. The public is welcome to attend and provide citizen comments to the school board at the open meetings. For details on the board, visit the "School Board Community" link on the district Web site at u-46.org.Bartlett Highbull; Thursday through Saturday, the winter play "All My Sons" will be presented at 7 p.m. in the Bartlett High School auditorium, 701 Schick Road. Tickets will be sold at the door for $7, $5 for students and senior citizens.Elgin Highbull; On Wednesday, Elgin High School will host the Eastside Choral Festival at 7 p.m. in the gym, 1200 Maroon Drive. Choral students from Elgin High feeder elementary schools along with Ellis and Larsen middle schools and Elgin High will perform. The feeder schools include: Channing, Coleman, Hilltop, Huff, Lincoln, Lords Park, McKinley, Sheridan, and Timber Trails. Admission is $1 per student, $2 per adult or $6 per family. Funds will go toward music purchased. This offers a look at the progression of musicianship from the young elementary singers, through the developing middle school musicians and on to the quality musicianship demonstrated by the high school choruses.Larkin Highbull; On Friday at 7 p.m. and Saturday at 3 and 7 p.m., the Visual and Performing Arts Academy dancers present their ninth annual "Bring a Book to Life" production at Larkin High School, 1475 Larkin Ave., Elgin. This year's production will be "Alice in Wonderland." Back by popular demand is guest choreographer Jeremy Plummer who danced with River North Chicago Dance Company, and is now the artistic director of his own dance company. Two Dance Academy alumni will return to choreograph some dances. Tickets are $8, $5 for students and senior citizens and are available at the door.Streamwood Highbull; On Thursday, the Mr. Sabre Contest will be held at 7 p.m. in the Streamwood High School auditorium, 701 W. Schaumburg Road. Junior and senior boys compete for the title by participating in a group song and dance, an individual talent performance, and question-and-answer formal dress competition. Tickets are $5 each and will only be sold in advance, not at the door. These classes, sponsored by the YWCA, are open to the public and admission is free. It also will be offered from 6 to 8 p.m. Wednesday at the school.
