School plays, concerts, orientations on tap

Here is what's in the news for the week of Monday to Friday, April 12-17, at Elgin Area Unit District 46 schools. For details, visit u-46.org.

Bartlett High: On Thursday through Saturday, the musical "Hello Dolly" will be presented at 7 p.m. in the Bartlett High School auditorium, 701 Schick Road. There also will be a matinee at 2 p.m. Sunday. Tickets are $12 for adults, $10 for seniors and $6 for students.

Larkin High: On Friday and Saturday, "The Wizard of Oz" will be presented at 7 p.m. in the Larkin High School auditorium, 1475 Larkin Ave., Elgin. Ticket prices are $10 for adults and $8 for senior citizens and students. Tickets are available ahead of time at the treasurer's office at LHS, or at the door on the evening of the performance.

Streamwood High: On Thursday, U-46 middle schools will participate in a Choral Festival Concert at 7 p.m. in the auditorium, 701 W. Schaumburg Road. Admission is free. On Thursday through Saturday, the play "Who's Afraid of the Dark?" will be presented at 7 p.m. in the auditorium. Tickets are $5 per adult and $4 per child.

Eastview: On Monday at 6:30 p.m., the monthly Parents and Teachers of Eastview meeting will be held at Eastview Middle School, 321 N. Oak St., Bartlett. This month's meeting will welcome parents of incoming Eastview seventh-grade students.

Ellis: On Thursday, an ice cream social will be held at Ellis Middle School in Elgin during ninth period for third-quarter students who have had good attendance, good grades and no tardies, etc. On Friday, the spring dance will be held from 6-8 p.m. in the gym, 225 S. Liberty St., Elgin.

Kenyon Woods: On Tuesday, the quarterly Avid Parent Workshop will be held at 6:30 p.m. in the Kenyon Woods Middle School commons, 1515 Raymond St., South Elgin.

Tefft: During the entire week, a Book Fair will be held in the Tefft Middle School library during school hours. On Friday, a school dance will be held from 6:30-8:30 p.m. in the school commons, 1100 Shirley Ave., Streamwood.

Bartlett: On Tuesday, kindergarten orientation for the parents of incoming kindergarten students will be held at 9 a.m. at Bartlett Elementary School, 111 North Ave., Bartlett.

Century Oaks: On Tuesday, kindergarten orientation will be held at 3:30 p.m. at Century Oaks Elementary School, 1235 Braeburn Drive, Elgin.

Fox Meadow: On Monday, kindergarten orientation will be held at 3 p.m. for the parents of incoming kindergarten students with last names beginning with the letter A-L at Fox Meadow Elementary School, 1275 Jenna Drive, South Elgin. On Tuesday, third- to sixth-graders will perform a musical program, "From Bach to Rock," at 6:30 p.m. at South Elgin High School auditorium, 760 E. Main St. On Thursday, kindergarten orientation will be held at 3 p.m. for the parents of incoming kindergarten students with last names beginning with the letter M-Z.

Glenbrook: On Friday, the Family Reading Night and Book Fair will take place from 6-8 p.m. at the Glenbrook Elementary School library, 315 Garden Circle, Streamwood. Selected Elgin High students will read their favorite stories. There also will be activities available for all children prekindergarten through sixth grade. There is no cost for the event; however, books may be purchased at the book fair.

Hanover Countryside: On Wednesday, kindergarten orientation will be held at 6:30 p.m. s at Hanover Countryside Elementary School, 6 S. Bartlett Road, Streamwood.

Heritage: On Thursday, kindergarten orientation will be held at 6 p.m. at Heritage Elementary School, 507 Arnold Ave., Streamwood.

Highland: On Wednesday, kindergarten orientation will be held at 3 p.m. at Highland Elementary School, 190 N. Melrose Ave., Elgin. Also on Wednesday from 3-6 p.m., a health clinic sponsored by U-46 and the Greater Elgin Family Care Center will be held for children, infant to 18 years old in the art room. Hilltop: On Tuesday, kindergarten orientation will be held at 5 p.m. for English-speaking parents and at 6:30 p.m. for the parents of both incoming bilingual and English-speaking kindergarten students at Hilltop Elementary School, 1855 Rohrssen Road, Elgin.

Horizon: On Friday, kindergarten orientation will be held at 8:30 a.m. at Horizon Elementary School, 1701 Greenbrook Blvd., Hanover Park. Children are welcome to attend.

Laurel Hill: On Tuesday, parents are invited to attend the third quarter Awards Assembly for fourth- to sixth-graders at 8:15 a.m. in the Laurel Hill Elementary multipurpose room, 1750 Laurel Ave., Hanover Park. The teachers and the Awana Club of Streamwood will be presenting special awards for academic achievements. Lowrie: On Thursday, kindergarten orientation will be held at 3:30 p.m. at Lowrie Elementary School, 264 Oak St., Elgin.

Nature Ridge: On Tuesday, kindergarten orientation will be held at 5:30 p.m. at Nature Ridge Elementary School, 1899 Westridge Blvd., Bartlett.

Oakhill: On Thursday, kindergarten orientation will be held at noon at Oakhill Elementary School, 502 S. Oltendorf Road, Streamwood.

Parkwood: On Monday, the Parkwood Elementary Spring Sing will be presented at 6:30 p.m. at the Tefft Middle School auditorium.

Prairieview: On Tuesday, kindergarten orientation will be held at 9 a.m. at Prairieview Elementary School, 285 Mayflower Lane, Bartlett.

Sheridan: On Wednesday, kindergarten orientation will be held at 8:30 a.m. at Sheridan Elementary School, 510 Franklin Blvd., Elgin.

Spring Trail: On Wednesday, kindergarten orientation will be held at 9 a.m. at Spring Trail Elementary School, 1384 Spring Valley Drive, Carol Stream.

Washington: On Thursday, kindergarten orientation will be held at noon at Washington Elementary School, 819 W. Chicago St., Elgin. Also on Thursday at 6:15 p.m., Reading and Math Night will be held for kindergarten to second-graders and their families. There will be cookies and laptop tickets for everyone.

Wayne: On Tuesday, kindergarten orientation will be held at 10 a.m. at Wayne Elementary School, 5N443 School St.

In other news: On Saturday, April 17, the first Elgin Science Exposition will take place at the Gail Borden Library from 9 a.m.-noon. Three hundred students are participating.
