Elgin candidates forum:The Elgin Area League of Women Voters will hold a candidates forum for at 2 p.m. Sunday, Jan. 17, at the Gail Borden Public Library in Elgin. Contested Kane County office candidates have been invited to speak as well as 16th Circuit judge candidates. The public is invited and will have an opportunity to submit questions to the candidates.Kimball Middle School to celebrate 50 years:Kimball Middle School will officially celebrate its 50 year anniversary 5 p.m. January 26 with an open house, guided tours and a rededication ceremony in the school's gym, 451 N. McLean Blvd. in Elgin. Pictures will be posted throughout the building displaying the 50 years at Kimball. During school hours that day, the staff and students will dress in clothing from 1959. Anyone with Kimball artifacts is asked to bring them to the school.County hosts pneumonia clinic:The McHenry County Department of Health is hosting a pneumonia vaccine clinic from 8:30 to 10 a.m. on Friday, Jan. 29, at its Crystal Lake office, 100. N. Virginia St. The vaccine is available to people 19 and older who have never had the shot and people 19 to 64 who have chronic health conditions. The vaccine is not recommended for pregnant women. The vaccine costs $35. It is free for patients with Medicare Part B or Medicaid. You must make an appointment. Call (815) 334-4931.
