Fashion works for Uptown

Passion for fashion intersects with urgency for Uptown at the 2012 Chicago Uptown Ministry Luncheon and Fashion Show. This annual fundraiser, hosted by the Friends of Chicago Uptown and Lutheran Child and Family Services of Illinois (LCFS), takes place Saturday, March 10 at Avalon Banquets in Elk Grove Village. It helps ensure the continued delivery of important community services in a neighborhood, where the availability of such services has dropped significantly over the last few years.

The event begins at 10:30 a.m. with a boutique and social hour, followed at 12:00 p.m. by lunch, a raffle and the fashion show. The initial list of items being raffled off includes fine dining experiences, tickets to sporting events, comedy shows and museums and some delicious chocolates. The excitement culminates with a grand prize raffle drawing for a trip with four nights of accommodations at a Hyatt Place U.S. location (including Las Vegas, Orlando and Scottsdale) and round-trip airfare for two.

Chicago Uptown Ministry serves the homeless, transient and low income families in Chicago's Uptown neighborhood. It builds community between people from all walks of life to bring about self sufficiency, hope and justice. The wide variety of services provided to the community includes:

• A food pantry

• Ways to Work

• Clinical counseling

• After school/summer programs

• English as a Second Language classes

• Parish nursing

• Alcoholics Anonymous meetings
