Victorious Program Graduate
Life events, loss of sibling, bankruptcy, and hurdles to overcome are some of the obstacles Kiana Robinson faced during her time in the Family Self-Sufficiency (FSS) Program in DuPage County. She spoke to a group at the DuPage Housing Authority (DHA) on May 14, 2017 as a new graduate along with her FSS caseworker. Upon entering the program, she had her doubts but the caseworkers pushed her to work more hours at work and motivated her to improve her work ethic. This paid off for her as she was promoted to a trainer. Since joining the program in 2013, she has learned that disappointments occur, plan to tackle problems, and bad things can teach you a lesson. One of her goals is to talk to single moms who were in similar situations as herself. "Being self-sufficient means not having co-dependency assistance from agencies like Link, etc." but that took time to get adjusted. With that being said, and a happy ending to her story, she told DHA she hopes to never see them again.
