Becky Simon elected president of the League of Women Voters of Illinois
Naperville resident Becky Simon was elected president of the statewide League of Women Voters of Illinois Saturday, June 10.
"It is such an honor to be chosen for this position," Simon said. "There has seldom been a more critical time to be protecting the right to vote and ensuring that all Illinois voters are informed and able to get to the polls. I have been a proud League member since 2010 and am ready to take on this challenge."
Simon will serve for two years in the state League's top role.
Simon's home league, the League of Women Voters of Naperville, is delighted that one of their own has assumed the state League's top post.
"Becky's commitment to voter rights and voter education, as well as her commitment to advocacy on issues that protect our democracy, make her the right person for the position," said Naperville League president Susan Craighead. "Her passion for empowering the League throughout the whole state of Illinois makes her a perfect fit for this leadership role."
Recently, Simon led a 10-month study of Naperville's appointment process for members of the city's boards and commissions.
The boards and commissions study group just released its findings and recommendations for better transparency and standardization of the appointment process.
The League of Women Voters of Illinois acts as an umbrella agency for 42 local Leagues across the state.
The League of Women Voters at all levels does not support or oppose individual candidates but does work to influence public policy issues that members choose to target.
Simon and her husband, Bill, are longtime Naperville residents and have three adult sons.
