Youth join seniors with dementia in celebrating 'Unplugged Summer'

With summer in full swing, a group of campers and seniors with dementia took part in a cherished summer tradition.

They celebrated the dog days of summer with an old-fashioned car wash and games at Harvester Place, an Anthem Memory Care community located at 150 S. Frontage Road in Burr Ridge.

The youth are participants in the Community House, a nonprofit organization that offers community recreation and social service to people of all ages.

"Many of our residents spent their childhood summers playing outdoor games," said Danyanique Hughes, life engagement director for Harvester Place. "This was a chance for our seniors to show today's kids how to have an old-fashioned and unplugged summer. We hope new friendships will result from their time together."
