Huntley church to host Labor of Love food drive Sept. 2

Shepherd of the Prairie Lutheran Church in Huntley invites the community to provide donations for its upcoming "Labor of Love" drive-through food drive to benefit Grafton Food Pantry on Saturday, Sept. 2.

It will be 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the church, 10805 Main St.

"Let's make this Labor Day weekend a labor of love by helping our neighbors at Grafton Food Pantry," said Tara Mackey, Community Outreach chair at Shepherd of the Prairie. "Our volunteers will be on hand in the parking lot to provide any assistance with the food collection."

According to Grafton Food Pantry board member Harriet Ford, the items most in need at this time include cleaning supplies; personal care items such as bars of soap and deodorant; baking supplies; condiments; pasta and pasta sauce; peanut butter, and boxes of macaroni and cheese.

Monetary donations are welcome to extend the reach and help others.

With every $1 donation, the Grafton Food Pantry is able to purchase an equivalent of $8 for food to help those in need. Checks should be made payable to Grafton Food Pantry.

The Grafton Food Pantry in Huntley serves individuals in need from Huntley, as well as portions of Algonquin, Lake in the Hills, and Crystal Lake.
