Schaumburg Library's Youth Department Director Wins Award
Amber Creger, Youth Department Director for the Schaumburg Library, is the recipient of the prestigious Davis Cup award from the Illinois Library Association's (ILA) Youth Services Forum. This annual award, sponsored by the ABDO Publishing Company, recognizes an individual who has made an outstanding contribution in library youth services.
In her position at the Schaumburg Library, Creger is responsible for the development and delivery of services for children from birth through 19 years at the library's three locations in Schaumburg, Hoffman Estates and Hanover Park. Her innovative ideas have resulted in replacing the library's traditional summer reading program with a Summer Challenge, adding more play space to kidsZone, and providing interactive equipment that promotes motor skills and creativity. Additionally, she is developing local partnerships between the library, businesses and organizations to provide teens with leadership development opportunities.
"Amber's commitment to children and families in our community is outstanding," said Monica Harris, Schaumburg Library's executive director. "This is a well-deserved award for a dedicated librarian."
In addition to her role at the Schaumburg Library, Creger has served and continues to serve on local, regional and national committees, and teaches as an adjunct professor at Dominican University's School of Information Services. Her award will be presented at a luncheon on Oct. 10, during the ILA annual conference in Tinley Park.
