This dragonfly was trying to shield it's body from the heat with it's wings I found out from researching this species. I took this photo on a very hot and humid day this summer. I have found the Halloween Pennants fascinating as I have studied them very close up the last few months. I was glad I was able to capture his pretty colors of it's body and wings and it's unique head. I took this photo at a local forest preserve.

On September 15, my wife and I were hiking through Devil's Kitchen in Lassen Volcanic National Park in Northern California, an area known for geothermal activity. My eye was drawn to this grass growing on a rock in the middle of Hot Springs Creek with steaming fumaroles nearby. I was particularly attracted by the colors, the movement of the water, and the resemblance to Japanese design.

We visited Pope Farm Conservancy near Madison Wisconsin in August. The sunflowers were at their peak, and I was able to capture this shot. I was unaware that a bee had photo bombed my shot until later - a happy surprise! I love sunflowers, and seeing an entire field of them in bloom was breathtaking!
