Mount Prospect church to bring back German Christmas Service Dec. 18
After a year off due to COVID 19, St. Paul Lutheran Church, Mount Prospect, will be again host its annual German language Christmas Service at 5 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 18.
St. Paul Lutheran Church was founded in 1912 by German farmers and small-business men residing in the area that was soon to become the village of Mount Prospect. Church services were held in German until the late 1930s and the congregation's Lutheran School taught the German language into the mid '70s.
In 2011, a German Christmas Service was reintroduced as a kickoff to the church's 100-year anniversary. It was so well received by the congregation's members and the broader community that it was turned into an annual tradition.
While the traditional Lutheran service will be conducted in German, an English translation of the sermon will be available. Musical selections will be sung by the German-American Singers of Chicago Choir.
The church is at 100 S. School St. in Mount Prospect, on the corner of Busse Avenue and School Street. Masks will be required.
