Izaak Walton League's Tea and History event to look at greenhouses
The Des Plaines Chapter of the Izaak Walton League of America will host this year's Tea and History Program from 1-3:30 p.m. Saturday, May 13, at the historic Jefferson House, 1841 S. River Road, Des Plaines.
Titled "Our Local Greenhouse History," Emma Marston of the Des Plaines History Center will present while attendees enjoy tea with scones, finger sandwiches and sweets.
Admission is $12 and tickets can be obtained online at www.iwla-desplaines.org or by contacting Jen Conlon at (847) 692-6447.
The third in a series of annual teas, the Tea and History Programs seek to inform the public about the history of the region and the long-standing commitment of the Izaak Walton League to nature.
"May is just a wonderful time to gather in person, and we'll hear about the area's long history of greenhouses, all while enjoying tea and lovely food in a terrific historic setting," said Conlon, event chairwoman and member of the Izaak Walton League. "We appreciate all the support we have gotten for these teas. It's a lot of fun."
The Izaak Walton League of America has recently celebrated its 100th anniversary. The conservation organization is committed to practical solutions geared toward sustainable use of natural resources. The Des Plaines chapter is one of the nation's oldest, chartered in 1926.
