Midwest Young Artists Conservatory to host North Shore Jazz and Classical Fest
Midwest Young Artists Conservatory (MYAC) is hosting the annual North Shore Jazz and Classical Fest on May 8 from noon to 6 p.m. Admission is free.
In addition to music from orchestras, jazz bands, and choirs, families can expect carnival games, food, prizes, and more.
Midwest Young Artists Conservatory is a youth music educational
non-profit organization based in Highwood's Fort Sheridan community. After a year of concerts, competitions, and educational activities at Pick-Staiger, Ravinia, and other local venues, the North Shore Jazz and Classical Fest is an opportunity for families to enjoy music and much more in a casual outdoor setting.
The North Shore Jazz and Classical Fest has been an annual Fort Sheridan tradition for around 15 years. The event serves as the casual counterpart to the formal Gala, which takes place the day before.
This year the theme for the two events, "Under the Big Top," is a nod to the physical setting: a large event tent constructed for MYAC's space needs during the pandemic.
For the North Shore Jazz and Classical Fest this tent will house circus themed games with prizes and concerts throughout the day. Guests can expect classical, jazz, and choral favorites at the performances.
"The students always think of this day of performances as a 'fun fest' because of the games, food, and festival atmosphere," said Karen Dennis, Director of Administration at MYAC. "When we started this event in 2008, we wanted to create an opportunity for our neighbors to get to
know our organization and what we do in the Fort's old Stockade Building. We hope that our neighbors and the larger community feel welcome to enjoy the games, fun, and most of all the music that our students from around Chicagoland create every week."
Families and all ages are welcome at this free event. Join us on May 8 from noon to 6pm at the MYAC Center, 878 Lyster Rd. Highwood, IL 60040. For more information please visit mya.org/upcoming-events.
