Dining out: Girl Scout Somoa-inspired doughnuts at Stan’s, wine dinner and more hot dog joints

Girl Scout … doughnuts?

Girl Scout cookie season is winding down, but you can still fulfill your Samoa craving thanks to a collaboration between Stan’s Donuts and the Girl Scouts of Greater Chicago and Northwest Indiana.

Stan’s is working with the Scouts to debut a Samoa-inspired coconut caramel crunch doughnut. The cake doughnut is coated in coconut crunch, drizzled with chocolate and caramel and dipped in chocolate.

It’s available from April 15 through May 12, and 25 cents from every doughnut sold supports Girl Scout programs.

And if you’re at Stan’s on Earth Day on Wednesday, April 22, you can receive a free pink reusable cup with purchase to encourage sustainability while enjoying Stan’s beverages.

Wine dinner

SixtyFour — Wine Bar and Kitchen in downtown Naperville will host a DAOU Vineyards wine dinner on Thursday, April 23.

The evening will include five courses paired with five DAOU wines, as well as speeches and table visits from the hosts so guests can learn more about the wines.

Dinner starts with an elevated chips and dip course with dill labneh and trout caviar. That’s followed by oysters Kilpatrick, rib-eye au poivre and bison Chateaubriand. A rhubarb tarte Tatin will be served for dessert.

The dinner is $119.98, plus tax (includes gratuity) and tickets can be purchased on Resy.

Welcoming a new restaurant

Kebab Bey restaurant, which specializes in Persian and Mediterranean cuisines, will host its grand opening at 3 p.m. Friday, April 17, at 109 S. Main St., Unit B, Lombard.

Dishes on their opening menu include beef koobideh, a chargrilled ground beef skewer; chicken koobideh; joojeh kebab, a saffron chicken thigh skewer; sis tawook, a garlic and tomato-marinated chicken; and adana kebab, a hand-minced lamb with Turkish spices.

Even more hot dogs

Last week’s story on suburban spots to grab a Chicago-style hot dog drew a slew of suggestions from readers (and co-workers) with their favorites that weren’t on the list. When you limit something like that to 10 places and try to offer some geographic diversity, you’re bound to leave some out.

Suggestions included (in order of how negligent I was told I was for them not being on the list): The Original Nana’s in Streamwood, Cozzi Corner in Downers Grove, Boss Dawgz in Lisle, Scooby's Hot Dogs in Downers Grove, Billy’s Hot Dogs in Palatine, Doctor Dogs in Roselle and Fratellos in Volo.
