Dining out: Capital Grille’s Generous Pour returns, Barrington Bourbon & Brew Crawl, The Woobles visit Giordano’s

Wine time

Wine lovers will want to check out The Capital Grille’s summer wine event The Generous Pour, back for its 17th year. Now through Aug. 31, the program offers guests a unique wine-tasting and educational experience curated by the restaurant's sommeliers.

Patrons will enjoy six wines from legendary California producers for $50 with the purchase of a dinner entrée. This year’s lineup features The Language of Yes Central Coast “Les Fruits Rouges” Rosé, Rombauer Vineyards Napa & Sonoma Sauvignon Blanc, Rombauer Vineyards Carneros chardonnay, J Vineyards & Winery Russian River Valley pinot noir, Orin Swift “Advice From John” California merlot and Jayson by Pahlmeyer “The Bench” Atlas Peak Cabernet Sauvignon.

Guests can also register to win a private, chef-curated dinner for up to five guests at Capital Grille, which has suburban locations in Lombard, Rosemont, Schaumburg and Skokie.

Bourbon and brews

You can sip, stroll and sample your way through downtown Barrington Saturday during the Chamber of Commerce’s second Barrington Bourbon & Brew Crawl. Participants will enjoy a curated tasting with 13 local stops featuring 12 craft beers and 11 specialty bourbons.

Tickets for the 21-plus crawl, which runs from 1-5 p.m., are $35 and can be purchased at TicketLeap. Check-in starts at 1 p.m. at Masa Modern Mexican Restaurant, 133 Park Ave., where a tasting glass and event guide will be available.

New GYG

Guzman y Gomez, the fast-growing fast-food Mexican chain, is opening a new location in Des Plaines Thursday, July 17.

To celebrate, the new restaurant at 2741 Mannheim Road will be offering $5 burritos and bowls all day (7 a.m. to 11 p.m.) for dine in, drive-through and carryout. Add chipotle fries and a fountain soda for $4 more. They’ll also have live music and giveaways.

It’s the seventh suburban location for the Australian-born chain, joining restaurants in Buffalo Grove, Crystal Lake, Deerfield, Evanston, Naperville and Schaumburg.

Unwind

Grab a drink and unwind with some live outdoor music from 6-8:30 p.m. Wednesdays, July 16 and Aug. 13, at the aptly named Unwind Wednesday on 1st Street Plaza in St. Charles.

To join in, head to one of five nearby restaurants — Alter Brewing + Kitchen, Gia Mia, La Mesa Modern Mexican, La Za’Za’ Trattoria and McNally’s Irish Pub & Kitchen — to get a wristband. Then grab a drink and head to the plaza to enjoy live music from Connie Cipher and Michael McInerney on July 16 and Dennis O’Brien on Aug 13.

The Woobles are coming!?

The viral crochet brand The Woobles (there’s a phrase I never thought I’d type) is doing a popup at Giordano’s in Oakbrook Terrace from noon to 8 p.m. Saturday.

What’s a Wooble? Google tells me The Woobles is an American amigurumi crochet kit company that apparently has earned quite a following and a deal from investors on Shark Tank. Looks like it involves crocheting little animals.

The event at 17W280 W. 22nd St. will include free exclusive Woobles kits and goodies while supplies last, crochet lessons and a chance to meet fan-favorite character Pierre the Penguin.
