Love interpreted by local artists, poets for exhibit

The Northwest Cultural Council and Kimball Hill galleries, 5999 New Wilke Road, Suites 307-308, presents "The Look of Love," a juried exhibition of art and poetry celebrating the varied aspects of love.

Award-winning poet Paulette Roeske of Evansville, Ind., selected the poetry portion of the show. In addition to her five books, Roeske has been published in numerous journals including Poetry. She's taught as visiting poet at Harlaxton College and Christ Church College in England and served on the board of The Poetry Center of Chicago.

The poetry exhibit consists of 53 poems from all over the U.S. Local poets include Ron Deverman of Park Ridge; Jim Littwin of Barrington; Connie Vaughn of Grayslake; Thomas P. Van Zeyl of Third Lake, and Gene Kimmet of Woodstock.

Visual art was selected by juror Nancy S. Hart of Batavia, recently retired from a long career as staff artist and curator of fine prints at The Morton Arboretum in Lisle. Her own natural history influenced work has been exhibited in many venues including The Art Institute of Chicago, The Smithsonian Institution, The New York Natural History Museum, The Hunt Institute of Botanical Documentation, The Newberry Library and The Chicago Botanic Garden. In retirement, Hart works in a new art medium, sculpture in ceramic.

The art exhibit consists of 37 pieces from all over the U.S. and as far away as Turkey and Armenia. Local artists include: Susanne Clark of Algonquin; Perry Slade of Aurora; Chu-Alice Chan, Andrew Ek and Michael Ruback, all of Chicago; Jack Siegel of Deerfield; Carol L. Zack of Elgin; Christine Lovering of Evanston; Henrietta DuBois of Hoffman Estates; Sarah Ettinger and Cathy Luckhart, both of Naperville; Elizabeth Granton of Oak Park; Charles Beinhoff of Palatine; Judy Langston of Park Ridge; Gwen Blakley Kinsler and Patti Tyk, both of RollingMeadows; and Edie Hinckley of Wheaton.
