Autism: Schaumburg Township District Library, 130 S. Roselle Road, will host an Alexian Brothers Hospital Network seminar "Alternative Treatment Strategies for Children with Autism: Empty Promises or Real Hope" from 7:30 to 9 p.m. Nov. 13. Led by Dr. Jeffrey Lewine of the Alexian Neurosciences Institute, this program will provide an overview of several alternative therapeutic strategies that have been put forward as helpful for children with autism. The discussion will focus on how little is presently known about the effectiveness of many of these alternative strategies. There will be an introduction to the Alexian Center for Brain Research, which is designing protocols to assess alternative treatments in a scientifically valid manner. This is a free seminar. Healthy holiday eating: Bloomingdale Public Library, 101 Fairfield Way, will host an Alexian Brothers Hospital Network seminar "Healthy Holiday Eating" from 6:30 to 8 p.m. Nov. 14. Join Susan Push, Alexian Brothers dietitian, and learn ways to keep a healthful lifestyle during the hectic holiday season, including planning ahead for parties, using moderation, choosing healthy fats and making time for exercise. Portion sizes and healthy snack ideas are discussed along with helpful easy recipes to include in your plan for busy shopping days. This is a free seminar.
