McHenry resident charged in DUI crash

Island Lake police officials said Monday a McHenry man was arrested in connection with an accident last week that critically injured a motorcyclist.

Officials said Mark Kleiner, 28164 W. Meadows Lane, was charged with driving under the influence after the accident Friday about 6:45 p.m. on Route 176 in Island Lake.

Police officials said Kleiner, 41, was pulling out of a private driveway in a 1992 Oldsmobile Cutlass when he hit a Honda Shadow motorcycle driven by a man police would not identify.

Wauconda fire officials said they transported the motorcyclist to Water Tower Park and cleared a football field of players to make room for a Flight for Life helicopter.

The victim was taken to Advocate Lutheran General Hospital in Park Ridge. Fire officials said the man, who was not wearing a helmet, appeared to be critically injured.

Police officials said Kleiner was not injured but would not comment on whether the motorcyclist had survived the crash, citing health privacy laws.
