Pick your pumpkins, fall veggies and decorations from these 'patches'
When you're adorning your home with fall finery, it takes more than just pumpkins. Locally, you can gather different vegetables, straw, hay and Indian corn. Make a stop at one of these markets and/or farms.
McHenry County
Dave's Pumpkins, Diane and Dave Reid, 9112 Algonquin Road, Huntley, (847) 331-8676. Location: two miles west of Randall Road on Algonquin Road. or three miles east of Route 47 on Algonquin Road, on the north side of road.
Open 9 a.m. to dusk. Available are jack-o'-lantern pumpkins, specialty pumpkins, gourds, specialty gourds, winter squash, corn shocks, straw, Indian corn, bittersweet, pie pumpkins, crafts.
Grizzy's Pumpkins, Route 20 and Coral Road, Marengo, (815) 923-4250. Directions: take I-90 west to Route 20 (Marengo exit). Go west four miles to Pumpkin Farm or from Route 47 in Huntley, take Main Street west to first stop sign then right to Route 20, then right on Route 20 to Pumpkin Farm.
Open Oct. 1-31. Roadside market only with pumpkins, squash, Indian corn, gourds.

Available are remaining garden vegetables, pumpkins, squash, gourds, corn stalks, fresh doughnuts, sandwiches and drinks (no alcohol). Tractor rides to pumpkin patch.

Available roadside are fresh fruits and homegrown vegetables, jams, jellies and apples. Pick-your-own pumpkins available on weekends only.

Some produce is available after hours. All produce homegrown on the farm. Hand-picked in-season vegetables including pumpkins, sweet corn, broccoli, cauliflower, green beans, cucumbers, green/red/yellow peppers, specialty peppers, beets, fall crops, zucchini and other summer squash and more. They also grow their own muskmelons, honeydew melons, watermelons, and carry fresh fruit from Michigan and Wisconsin.
