ALS Foundation 2008 calendars: The Les Turner ALS Foundation's 2008 calendars, featuring art by people with ALS, Lou Gehrig's disease, can be obtained for $10, plus shipping, by calling (847) 679-3311 or at 222.lesturnerals.org. Proceeds from calendar sales will help support medical research, patient and family services and educational programs for those affected by ALS.

Des Plaines Garden Club: The Des Plaines Garden Club's annual "Holiday Happenings" fundraiser: 11 a.m. Thursday; Manzo's Banquets, 1517 S. Elmhurst Road, Des Plaines.
