Victory Centre of Bartlett notes

The following events will be held at the Victory Centre of Bartlett, 1101 W. Bartlett Road. Most are free and open to the public. For more information, call Rita at (630) 213-0100.

• Flu shots, 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. Wednesday -- Maxum Health will provide flu shots. Cost is $25 for those without Medicare/Medicaid coverage. Registration is required.

• German, polka music, 5 to 7 p.m. Wednesday -- In honor of Oktoberfest and German-American Heritage Month, enjoy German and polka music by Jerry May and the Mello-Tones/Happy Wanderers, complete with musicians in lederhosen and fraulein clothing. Refreshments will be served.

• Wellness seminar, 6 p.m. Thursday -- Dr. Rajiv K. Sood of Northwest Health Care Associates will present a wellness seminar on healthy living in the Senior Apartments, Building No. 1105, W. Bartlett Road.

• Mr. Showman, 2:30 p.m. Friday -- Back by popular demand is "Mr. Showman," pianist Floyd Andrew of Ontario, Canada. Andrew will be bring back memories of Liberace as he plays all the favorites. Cake will be served honoring October birthdays.

• Piano recital, sing-a-long, 3 p.m. Oct. 8 -- Bartlett resident Phyllis Muhling will present a piano recital and sing-along.

Muhling was a long-time piano instructor in the area, and is active with local music educators clubs and the Bartlett Adult Chorus.

• Music recital, 1 p.m. Oct. 10 -- In honor of Illinois Arts Week, the Glen Ellyn/Wheaton Music Educator's Club presents a recital.

Active and retired music teachers will perform on piano and other instruments. Refreshments will be included.

• Polish service, 6:30 p.m. Oct. 12 -- In honor of Polish-American Heritage Month, the Polish Club of St. John the Evangelist in Streamwood will provide a Polish service with music and refreshments, organized by outreach member Daniela Kowalska.

At 7 p.m., the Polonie dance troupe of Emily Platter Polish School in Schaumburg will perform. Enjoy authentic and colorful folkloric costumes, dance numbers and Polish songs.

• "The 1950s Show," 2 p.m. Oct. 14 -- John Korsgaard of Houston, Texas, returns with "The 1950s Show," a program of humor and nostalgia.

• "Cowboy Legends," 1:30 p.m. Oct. 16 -- In honor of Country Music Month, Larry Bergbach, founder of Reminiscing with Larry, will present "Cowboy Legends: A Nostalgia Program."

Relive memories of Tom Mix, the Lone Ranger, Gene Autry and Roy Rogers.

• Identity theft presentation, 2:30 p.m. Oct. 17 -- A representative of Citibank at Work will discuss identity theft in Senior Apartment Building No. 1105. Identity theft is one of the fastest growing crimes in the United States. It happens when someone steals personal information to take over credit accounts, open new ones, take out loans, rent an apartment or commit other crimes.

The seminar will provide tips on how to avoid becoming a victim, and what to do when victimized. Refreshments will be served.

• Pastoral care brunch, 10 to 11:30 a.m. Oct. 19 -- In honor of upcoming National Pastoral Care Week, all clergy and outreach staff are invited to enjoy a brunch in appreciation of the spiritual nourishment they provide to others.

• Happy Hour party, 3 p.m. Oct. 19 -- Enjoy an afternoon Happy Hour party with Bartlett resident Audrey D. Knutson on the piano, leading an old-fashioned sing-along featuring singer Judy Feldhausen.

• Voice, piano recital, 2:30 p.m. Oct. 21 -- Members of the A & A Music Academy in Hanover Park will present a voice and piano recital, under the direction of instructor Carole Irwin.

• Silver Belles sing-a-long, 2 p.m. Oct. 29 -- The Hanover Township Silver Belles will perform a program of sing-along golden oldies, led by accompanist Audrey D. Knutson.

Several members of the Silver Belles are residents of Victory Centre of Bartlett.

• Red Hat Halloween, 10:30 a.m. Oct. 31 -- The Ladies of Victory Chapter of the Red Hat Society present a Halloween treat with cabaret singer Heather Braodakis in "Blue Moon."

Songs will include "Moon River," "Blue Moon," "Fly Me to the Moon," and "That's Amore." Costumes encouraged.

• Trick or Treat, 3 to 7 p.m. Oct. 31 -- The Victory Centre is a safe haven for children to trick or treat in costume, and residents will be in the lobby to give out candy.
