3-on-3 tournament: Prospect High School Athletic Boosters are sponsoring their annual preseason 3-on-3 basketball tournament Sunday at Prospect High School, 801 W. Kensington Road, Mount Prospect. The tournament is open to boys and girls in fourth through 12th grade. Separate brackets are planned for each age group except for high school juniors and seniors who will be combined. Other grade levels may also be combined depending on registrations. Different competition levels may be added based on registrations. Efforts will be made to coordinate playing times so participants in other fall programs may participate.

Football
Lake Zurich Flames: In the Chicagoland Youth Football League Big 10 Middleweight Division, the Lake Zurich Flames defeated the Cary Junior Trojans 12-0 on Sept. 23. The Flames' record is now 3-1 after a loss to Libertyville.
Early in the first quarter, on Cary's first drive, Camden Kuksa forced and recovered a fumble to give the Flames a position on Cary's 28-yard line. The offense moved toward the goal line and Steve Demmert ended the drive by scoring with an 8-yard quarterback keeper, giving the Flames a 6-0 lead.
Later in the third quarter, Kuksa blasted through the middle and ran 49 yards for the Flames second touchdown for a 12-0 lead.
The combined efforts of quarterbacks Jack Boliaux, Charlie Spatoulas, Demmert and Kuksa threw for a total of 55 yards passing, with receptions by Michael Hagan, Branden Arteaga, Kuksa and Boliaux. Carries by James DeGeorge, Gil Juarez, Arteaga, Boliaux, Kuksa and Demmert, combined for a total of 95 yards rushing. Their rushes were aided by blocks by the Flames offensive machine of Luke Yankoe, A.J. Trittschuh, Noah Allgood, Mitch Zovnic, Noah Ezsak, Juarez, Hagan and DeGeorge.
The Flames' defense of Brett Blum, Tony Anagnostopoulos, Colton Wagner, Yankoe, Hagan, DeGeorge, Spatoulas, Juarez, Kuksa, Demmert and Boliaux completely shut down the Cary offense. The defense racked up quarterback sacks by Blum, Boliaux, Demmert, Juarez and Kuksa, while Boliaux and Demmert each pulled in interceptions.
Softball
Thunder tryouts: Mundelein Thunder will hold tryouts Saturday for the girls 10-and-under travel team at Carl Sandburg School softball fields, Hawley and Midlothian Road, Mundelein. All girls who want to play fastpitch softball who will be at least 8 years old on Jan. 8, 2008 are eligible.
Players should bring a softball glove, cleats, their own bat and batting helmet if they have one. Catchers should bring their own gear if they have it. Equipment will also be available for their use.

Swimming
Swim Meet: The CATS Aquatic Team will host its annual "CATS Classic" swim meet Saturday and Sunday at Vernon Hills High School, 145 N. Lakeview Parkway, Vernon Hills. CATS is a community-based swimming program primarily serving student-athletes residing within the boundaries of Community High School District 128.
CATS offers both developmental and competitive tracks for age group athletes (ages 8 and under, 9-10, and 11-12) and Senior level athletes (ages 13-14, 15 and over) under the charter of USA Swimming. CATS recently completed its transition to a parent board owned organization. Previously administered by District 128, CATS is now a not-for-profit entity in partnership with District 128 that utilizes the pool facilities of both Vernon Hills and Libertyville High Schools and is recognized by District 128 as its "feeder" swim program.
CATS achieved Bronze Level recognition by USA Swimming and is sponsored by Speedo. The CATS current coaching staff is under the leadership of full-time Age Group Head Coach Jeff Arce, and full-time Senior Head Coach Brian Brown. Other returning part-time coaches are Pat Costello, Tim Griffin and Nina Arce. New coaches include Abby Thomas and Sarah Cull. CATS also receives coaching support from Kedric Greenwalt, head coach at Vernon Hills High School.
