Schwartz sisters still alive at state

Of the remaining Fox Valley area participants at the IHSA state girls tennis tournament, only the Prairie Ridge doubles team of Julie Schwartz/Jackie Schwartz will be playing in today's final round.

The Schwartz sisters made it to the fourth round of the championship bracket Fridday before falling to sisters Hannah and Heather Esker of Effingham St. Anthony 6-4, 7-5. The Schwartzes then bounced back and defeated Kelsey Linden and Kristy Dodge of Barrington 6-4, 6-0 to advance to the consolation quarterfinals at Rolling Meadows this morning.

The Wolves stand tied with Highland Park for third place in the team standings with 24 points. Allison Murphy picked up two more singles wins before being eliminated by Kayla Fujimoto of Geneva 6-3, 6-2. Caroly Huerth also picked up another singles win Friday before being ousted by Jessica Wacnik of Stagg 6-2, 6-2. The doubles team of Emily Murphy/Laura Curran was bounced by Stephanie Jenks/Melanie Milling of Wheaton South 7-6, 3-6, 7-5.

Jacobs' Annie Smith lost her first match Friday, being eliminated by Ashley Hinkamper of Quincy Notre Dame. Smith finished the tournament 2-2.

Elgin Academy's Bethany Boyle was also sent home Friday, falling to Waubonsie Valley's Bryna Nasenberry 6-1, 6-0 in the fourth round of the consolation bracket. Boyle finished 3-2 in the tournament.

Also eliminated was the Crystal Lake South doubles team of Jennifer Maruyama/Laura Roesslein, who fell to Geneva's Blair Selakovich/Mary Pelling 6-0, 6-2.

Hinsdale Central all but clinched the team title and now stands with 44 points. Downers Grove South is second with 25 points, followed by Prairie Ridge and Highland Park.
