Lake in the Hills Parks and Recreation notes

Basketball-third and fourth grades: The Lake in the Hills Parks & Recreation Department is looking for third- and fourth-grade girls and boys to play recreational basketball. Practices and games will take place at May Chesak Elementary School on between the hours of 8 and 11 a.m. Saturday mornings -- practice and game times to be scheduled by the assigned coaches. Practices will be held during the first few weeks of November and games will finish out the remaining weeks through January.

Resident fee is $60, nonresident fee is $75. Fee includes jersey, referees and gym time. Bring a water bottle to each practice/game. Practices begin Nov. 3. Registration deadline is Friday.

Kookie Kids-Cooking Class with a Theme: Hey kids! Sick of PB&J sandwiches? Want to impress family and friends with your culinary skills?

The Lake in the Hills Parks and Recreation Department and Simply Homemade has a cooking class that's simply delicious.

After a lively lesson in kitchen basics learning kitchen safety and sanitation techniques, you'll make two tasty meals to share with your family. Each entree serves 4-6 people. A snack and beverage will be provided during the class.

The special theme for October is "Halloween" to be held from 4 to 5:30 p.m. Oct. 30. Class will be held at Simply Homemade, 1500 Carlemont Drive, Crystal Lake. Resident fee is $55; nonresident fee $65 per class.

Create Your Own Necklace and Bracelet: What's glowing on Halloween? You are!

Well, your jewelry will be if you join the Lake in the Hills Parks & Recreation Department in making your very own glow-in-the-dark bracelet or necklace.

This beading class, for creative boys and girls between the ages of 5-12, will be held from 6 to 7:30 p.m. Monday in the village hall Community Room, just in time for Halloween Resident fee is $32; nonresident fee is $42.

Kids' Craft Corner: Enjoy special time with your child as we meet to share in making a Halloween craft. Join instructor, Deena Ciavarella, at the Lake in the Hills village hall lower-level classroom from 1:30 to 2:15 p.m. or 2:30 p.m. to 3:15 p.m. on Friday. Skill enhancement may include scissors and glue use, painting, creative and imaginative thinking. Please dress for messy fun. Class sizes are limited, so register early. Adult participation required. Resident fee $$8 parent/child and $5 for each additional child. Nonresident fee is $10 parent/child and $6 for each additional child.

Halloween All Night Skate: Join the Lake in the Hills Parks & Recreation Department for an All Night Halloween Skating party on Friday. Youth, age 7 and older, will enjoy skating, dancing, games and other fun. Don't forget to wear a costume for the costume contest The party starts at 9:30 p.m. A midnight movie will help you catch your second wind so that you can finish the morning with even more fun and excitement. Fee includes admission, regular skate rental, a slice of pizza and one small soda. In-line skates are $2 extra. Resident fee is $16; nonresident fee is $19. Don't forget spending money for any extras you may want. This fun-filled All Night Halloween Skating Party is at Just For Fun Roller Rink, 914 N. Front St., Route 31, McHenry. Drop off is at 9:30 p.m. Pick up at 6 a.m.

Monthly Mom Topic-Holiday Budgeting: The Lake in the Hills Parks & Recreation Department has partnered with the McHenry County chapter of Mothers & More to offer free monthly outings for moms looking to educate and inspire themselves. Each month has a different educational, fun and interested topic or speaker.

Join us at 7 p.m. on Monday at the LaBahn-Hain House, 149 Hilltop Drive, for an important discussion about holiday budgeting.
