Shop staff to get dunked for charity

Auto Plus, Inc. will hold Client Appreciation Day from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. Wednesday at the shop, 515 S. Grace St., Addison.

The event will include a chance to take aim at Auto Plus staff members in a dunk tank to raise money for the Cystic Fibrosis Foundation. The cost is $1 per ball, three balls for $2. For information, call (630) 543-1488.

NYT editor to sign new book

Author Wendell Jamieson will sign and discuss his new book "Father Knows Less or: 'Can I Cook My Sister?': One Dad's Quest to Answer His Son's Most Baffling Questions" at 7:30 p.m. Friday at Borders Books and Music, 1500 16th St., Oak Brook.

Jamieson, city editor at the New York Times, set out to answer questions set forth by his precocious son, Dean.

He spoke to movie directors, ship captains, neurosurgeons, stabbing victims, lottery winners, museum curators, politicians, judges, compulsive shoppers, Yoko Ono, a dominatrix and many others to get those answers. For details, call (630) 574-0800.

Register for golf event by Friday

Central DuPage Kiwanis will host a golf outing at 8 a.m. Sept. 21 at Klein Creek Golf Club, 1N333 Pleasant Hill Road, Winfield. Register by Friday.

Proceeds will benefit local charities. The cost is $150 per golfer, which includes 18 holes of golf with a cart, locker and shoe service, a sleeve of golf balls, lunch, a coupon for a free Magique Rescue Wood ($125 value) and on-course prizes.

Actors needed for walking tour

Auditions for actors to participate in a tour of Elmhurst will be from 9:30 to 11:30 a.m. Saturday at the Elmhurst Historical Museum, 120 E. Park Ave.

"Walking In and Out of the Past," a walking history tour, will be Oct. 20. Actors will portray well-known Elmhurst residents.

Those who audition should prepare a five-minute monologue or present a short scene from the script, which may be picked up from the museum.

Sign up for library card in September

All Lombard residents who sign up for a new library card or renew their current card during September at the Helen M. Plum Memorial Library, 110 W. Maple St., Lombard, will receive a gift and a coupon for a free DVD rental.

Free library cards are available to patrons of all ages who either live or own property within the Lombard village limits.

Trust One's golf outing successful

Thanks to the success of their first charity golf classic, Trust One Mortgage Corporation recently made a $5,000 donation to the Make-A-Wish Foundation.

The outing took place Aug. 17 at Willow Crest Golf Club in Oak Brook and more than 100 golfers took part.

Oak Brook-based Trust One, now celebrating its second full year in business, also has offices located in Chicago and Aurora. The company specializes in both residential and commercial loans.
