3 arrested in postgame brawl at South Elgin High School

Three teenagers were arrested Thursday night after taking part in a brawl outside South Elgin High School.

Robert Peoples, 19, and Justin Wilkes, 17, both of Chicago, and Hakeim A. Johnson, 17, of South Elgin, were fighting with a dozen others on the southeast side of the school about 9:15 p.m., shortly after a basketball game between South Elgin and Larkin High School ended, police said.

All three were charged with mob action, a Class 4 felony, as well as misdemeanor disorderly conduct. Wilkins also was charged with unlawful consumption of alcohol, a misdemeanor.

South Elgin High School Principal Melanie Meidel said officials believe the fight occurred over pizza.

"Someone apparently tried to clean their hands on someone else," she said.

Meidel said school officials were unsure of why the two Chicago teens were at the school.

Bonds of $500 each were set for Peoples, Johnson and Wilkens.

Peoples and Wilkens bonded out by Friday afternoon.

Johnson was being held in Kane County jail.

All three are scheduled to appear in court Jan. 2 at the Kane County Judicial Center.
