District 158 passes tax levy
The Huntley Unit District 158 school board recently passed its annual tax levy. The district will ask for roughly $58.7 million this year, an increase of about 10 percent over last year's tax collections of about $53.4 million. District 158 will only collect about $56.7 million, a 6 percent increase over last year, because it cannot raise taxes faster than the rate of inflation. The tax rate will rise from $4.03 to $4.05 per $100 of equalized assessed value, according to district estimates.
Free domestic violence counseling
The Community Crisis Center in Elgin provides domestic violence counseling services for residents of northwestern Kane County. A licensed counselor and is available to adult and adolescent females, and services are free. For information or an appointment, call (847) 697-2380.
Baseball coaches clinic
The baseball programs at Jacobs and Dundee-Crown high schools will host a free coaching clinic for youth baseball managers from 7 to 11:30 a.m. Saturday, Jan. 17.
