Briefs: District 300 launches tip line

Community Unit District 300 has launched a new safety tip line that allows students, staff, parents and local residents to anonymously report safety issues at District 300 schools. The line can be reached 24 hours a day by calling (847) 551-8477 (TIPS). Messages can be left in English or Spanish. The tip line should only be used to report situations that do not pose an immediate threat to the safety of District 300 students or staff. District 300's safety officer, Gary Chester, will be notified when a message is left on the tip line.

Ditch that old fridge

Carpentersville residents who have a refrigerator, freezer or air conditioning unit that is still in working condition but is now just taking up space can make some money while helping the environment. ComEd is offering its customers a rebate and recycling program to help residents dispose of old refrigerators, freezers and air conditioning units responsibly. Old models could use up to five times more electricity than newer models, so it doesn't make sense to hold on to them. The Carpentersville program takes place on Monday, Nov. 24. Appointments are required to have ComEd haul away the old appliances. Rebates are limited to $25 each for up to two refrigerators, freezers or air conditioning units. Your opinions needed

The Dundee Township Park District seeks resident input on park services, facilities, and programs through a survey that's available either by mail or online. The data will be used to focus the park district's resources in area that will have the greatest positive impact on residents, park district executive director Tom Mammoser said. Select homes will receive a survey in the mail in late October. Other residents can complete the survey at www.stfrancis.edu/solutions or can pick up a copy at the Dundee Township Park District Recreation and Fitness Center, 665 Barrington Ave, Carpentersville or at the district's administrative offices, 21 N. Washington St, Carpentersville. District residents can also request a mailed copy by calling (847) 428-1707. Surveys are available in English and Spanish.
