Briefs: Honoring soldiers Sunday

St. Catherine of Siena Catholic Church will old an evening to honor, praise and remember men and women who have and are currently serving our country in the armed forces. The evening begins at 7:30 p.m., Sunday, Nov. 9, at the church at Route 72 and Route 31 in West Dundee. It's open to anyone. Questions? Call the church at (847) 426- 2217.

Club turns 15

The Boys & Girls Club of Elgin welcomes all for its 15th anniversary celebration from 3 to 6 p.m. Monday, Nov. 10 at its facility at 355 Dundee Ave. There will be tours and cake. The club began its small operation Nov. 9, 1993, in a city owned and renovated house at 355 Dundee Ave. On June 23, 2008, the organization opened the doors to its 15,000-square-foot facility, the Education & Enrichment Center, to more than 300 kids. Daily attendance has remained high with an average of 230-250 young people per day. Membership has also grown to more than 1,000 members.

Veterans Memorial Park fundraiser

You can contribute to the construction of Elgin's Veterans Memorial Park by purchasing a personalized brick paver, tree or bench in honor of a loved one. Engraved brick pavers will line the perimeter of the walkway, and are available for $50 each. Memorial trees are $250 and benches $500 each, and will be located throughout the park, which is being built directly north of the Gail Borden Library. Order forms are available at city hall, 150 Dexter Court; The Centre, 100 Symphony Way; the library, 270 N. Grove Ave.; the VFW, 1601 Weld Road; or the American Legion Hall, 820 N. Liberty St. Order forms are also available online at Quick Links on the City of Elgin Web site, cityofelgin.org. Ready to run?

Nominating packets for those interested in running for village office in Algonquin for the April election is now available at the administrative offices inside village hall, 2200 Harnish Drive. The president's seat, three trustee positions and the village clerk's spot will all be up for grabs. For details, call (847) 658-2700.
