Genealogical Society plans bus trip

The McHenry County Illinois Genealogical Society is sponsoring a deluxe history bus trip of the whole of McHenry County on Oct. 11. The cost will be $15 for members and $20 for nonmembers on a first-come, first-served basis.

The trip will take travelers past all the libraries in McHenry County holding genealogical research materials as well as past the McHenry County Historical Society. Almost all of the county's communities will be visited.

Local historian, Craig Pfannkuche will provide commentary on the history of the county, its communities and its many and varied cemeteries will take place. Discussions concerning family history research in McHenry County and the Chicago metropolitan area also will take place. Everything from ethnic concentrations, murder sites, Prohibition era "hot spots", and even the site of a 1920s free love commune to county "ghost town" sites will be pointed out.

Questions and commentaries from the passengers on the bus will be most welcome.

A lunch stop where the bus riders can purchase lunch or eat a "brown bag" lunch is factored into the trip.

Join the group for an enjoyable tour of both the locations of a wealth of genealogical data, a friendly discussion of doing family history research, and an overview history of our historically very interesting county.

Payment accepted by PayPal directly through Web site mcigs.org or checks can be mailed to MCIGS P.O. Box 184, Crystal Lake, IL 60039-0184 and must be received by Oct. 10.
