Hampshire takes IMSA invite
The Hampshire girls volleyball team took first place after finishing with a perfect 5-0 record at the IMSA Invite. The Whip-Purs started the day undefeated in pool play, defeating Freeport Aquin 25-21, 25-23, Kaneland 25-15, 25-15, and Westmont 25-19, 25-14. In the semifinal round Hampshire downed Rockridge 25-18, 25-11. The Whip-Purs then battled Mt. Assissi for the championship coming out on top by scores of 25-23, 25-12.
Kara Wehrs led the Whip-Purs (22-2) with 77 assists and 44 kills for the day while Amy Wehrs had 52 kills. Chessa Osiecki added 51 digs for the Whips and Cassie Dumoulin had 17 kills and 8 stuff blocks.
Crystal Lake South at Nike Challenge: The Gators (14-5) fell in two tough matches at the Nike Challenge, falling to Catholic Memorial 27-25, 25-23 and Newport Beach 18-25, 26-24, 25-23. Katie Trayser led at the net for CLS posting 33 kills with 43 digs. Caitlyn Schumacher (31 kills, 27 digs) and Erin Johnson (28 kills, 17 blocks) also contributed. The Gators bounced back in match 3 defeating Bellevue 25-17, 25-18 and then again in match 4 with a 25-12, 25-17 win over Wahlert. Jordan Guida tallied 80 assists while Kali Loescher collected 31 digs on defense for the Gators.
South Elgin at Conant Tournament: Opening play at the Conant Invitational with a pair of wins over Trinity (25-9, 25-13) and Maine East (25-9, 25-5), South Elgin (5-15) finished play 2-2 dropping a close match to Glenbard North (25-23, 20-25, 15-10) before losing 25-17, 26-27, 15-13 to Addison Trail.
Solid offensive and defensive help came from Alyssa Krause (20 kills, 14 aces, 3 digs), Hayley Bradley (22 kills, 8 digs), Amber Schnecke (16 kills, 3 digs), Tara Bradley (6 kills, 10 aces, 62 assists, 23 digs), Genevieve Johnson (3 kills, 37 digs, 4 aces), Christie Cortese (11 kills, 3 aces, 14 digs) and Kelly Reilly (10 kills, 5 aces, 11 digs) in this complete team effort.
