Schaumburg student arrested for halftime streaking

A Schaumburg High School student was flagged by police at a Thursday night Powderpuff football game for what was deemed an inappropriate end zone celebration.

Shane Lenth, 17, of 1511 Harvard Lane in Schaumburg, was arrested and charged with disorderly conduct after streaking naked through the Saxon football stadium, Schaumburg police said.

The incident happened at 7:50 p.m. on the field's brand-new artificial turf.

Lenth, a senior, plays lacrosse at Schaumburg. Palatine-Schaumburg High School District 211 spokesman Tom Petersen said streaking would fall under the gross disobedience or misconduct section of the district's student-behavior guidelines. Those policies state suspension and expulsion as possible punishments for infractions at school-sponsored activities, even those that happen after school hours.

"It was just poor judgment on the student's part," Petersen said. "We handled it like any other disciplinary issue."

Petersen called streaking at District 211 events a rarity. Other school officials have reported previous incidents, including one this year at a Fremd-Palatine football game.

No word if Lenth was wearing his Schaumburg High School ID during the alleged incident. District 211 officials this year enacted a new security policy mandating school IDs be visible at all times on students, even when attending school-related events.

Lenth, who could not be reached for comment, is due in court Dec. 4.
