Crystal Lake Park District notes
Aloha, again, for the 10th annual Crystal Lake Park District Senior Luau at Crystal Lake Main Beach, 300 Lakeshore Drive, Crystal Lake.
Area seniors are invited to attend the Senior Luau and enjoy the different dances from each island, the beautiful costumes, as well as Don Ho (Pesi) from the Royal Polynesian Review from 6 to 8:30 p.m. Wednesday, July 30.
This event is free of charge for seniors thanks to the generosity of co-sponsors: The Crystal Lake Park District, City of Crystal Lake, McHenry Retirement Community, BrightStar Healthcare, Senior Services, Eastgate Manor-Algonquin, Senior Alliance, Right at Home In Home Care & Assistance and Creative Therapy Resources.
Light refreshments will be served, while supplies last. In the event of inclement weather, the luau will be held at Park Place, 406 W. Woodstock St., Crystal Lake.

Teen Garage Sale: Teens looking to make some extra spending money this summer, may want to take part in the Crystal Lake Park District Annual Teen Garage Sale. The Teen Garage Sale will take place from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. Friday, Aug. 1 at Main Beach, 300 Lakeshore Drive, Crystal Lake. In the event of rain, the sale will be held Saturday, Aug. 2, at the same time.
Everyone is welcome to come and browse the items for sale, but only kids entering fifth through 12th grades may rent a table and sell. Sellers should register and pay the $15 fee in advance with the Crystal Lake Park District.
Canoe trip: Adventure anyone? The Crystal Lake Park District has planned an adventure filled canoe trip, Wednesday-Thursday, Aug. 13-14, with the Illinois Parks and Recreation Association. Teens in sixth through 12th grades from all over Illinois will join forces to spend two fun-filled days on the Wisconsin River. This overnight canoe trip is a 21 mile scenic stretch of the Wisconsin River. On the first day, we will canoe approximately 12 miles and set-up camp along the river. The second day will consist of packing up and paddling the final 9 mile stretch. Bussing will be from Park Place, 406 W. Woodstock St., Crystal Lake. Bus leaves 6 a.m. on Aug. 13 and returns at 4:30 p.m. on Aug. 14. Cost includes canoe rental, food, and supplies. nonmember fee is $95, member discount fee is $90. Mandatory Parent Meeting for the trip will be held at 6:30 p.m. Thursday, July 31 at the Park District Administrative Office, at One E. Movies in the Park: Take advantage of the Crystal Lake Park District's our improved free Movies in the Park and bring out the family for some "royal treatment!"
On Friday, Aug. 1, "Shrek the Third" will be playing free at Main Beach, rain or shine. The movie will be playing on Southern Breeze Entertainment's state-of-the-art inflatable outdoor movie screen. Come early before the movie for free music provided by the DJ booth, games and jumps in the "Jumpers" beginning at 6:30 p.m. The movie begins at dusk.
The Crystal Lake Park District has announced that Pump It Up, Liberty Mutual and Noodles & Company as the Crystal Lake Park District's sponsors of "Shrek the Third."
