ECC radiology exam July 15

The Elgin Community College radiography program has scheduled a pre-admission exam for 10 a.m. Tuesday, July 15, in Room 183 of the Health and Business Technology Center on the ECC main campus, 1700 Spartan Drive, Elgin.

The three-hour exam is required before entering the radiography program and is a prerequisite for entry into the May 2009 class. The nonrefundable fee for the test is $20, payable by cash, check or charge. Students must register and pay by July 10. VISA, MasterCard, Discover and American Express are accepted. Students may visit www.psbtests.com for sample questions.

The demand for radiographers is expected to grow more than 15 percent through 2014, and there is an average of 134 annual openings in the five-county area surrounding ECC.

A career in radiography offers a promising future, including job stability and a competitive salary. As the American population ages and technology advances, the need for radiologic exams and procedures continues to soar, leaving the country with a growing need for qualified medical imaging professionals.

Wages are competitive with other health professionals with similar educational backgrounds, $44,090 annually according to the Illinois Department of Employment Security. In addition, many employers allow radiographers to work flexible schedules, including part-time or evenings, giving them time to attend to family, children and other personal responsibilities.

For information or to register for the exam, call the ECC Testing Center at 847-214-7219. Students can pick up the registration form at www.elgin.edu/testing or come to the Testing Center in Room 108 of the Student Resource Center on the Main Campus.
