Naperville North band has all the right moves

The Naperville North Marching Huskies opened their 2008 competitive season over the weekend by winning Grand Champion honors along with five division AAA trophies at the 21st annual Wheaton North Falcon Marching Band Festival.

The Huskies were among 18 bands from three states that performed.

Their new show, "Copland," an original composition by Dan Moore, director of bands, took first place in the AAA division of groups with 97 or more playing members, as well as Grand Champion honors for the highest score of any band in any division.

The Huskies also took home awards for Outstanding Visual Performance, Outstanding Musical Performance, Outstanding Color Guard and Outstanding Percussion.

The band will perform "Copland" on Friday, Sept. 26, when the Huskies football team takes on Glenbard North. The next competition performance will be at Lincoln-Way High School on Saturday, Sept. 27.

The band's complete performance schedule is available at the Friends of Music Web site at nnhsmusic.org.

The 140-member band is under the direction of Moore, Brian VanKley and Laurie Peterson.
