Wellbeing for Women: Let McHenry County College's Continuing Education Department help you relax and enjoy the summer with fun and empowering well-being classes especially for women. Classes include Beginners' Yoga, Facercise, Women's Self Defense and Find Your Home Style. To register, call the MCC Registration Office at (815) 455-8588. Beginners' Yoga: Yoga can help one to gain strength and flexibility. Asanas (postures) will be explored as they relate to everyday movements and activities. Bring a large towel. Do not eat a large meal before class and do not wear perfumes or scented body products. Wear comfortable stretch clothing, but nothing too loose. All sections of this class are held at Kalitrea Yoga Studio at 4410 Route 176 in Crystal Lake. The cost of this class is $45. The class will meet 9:30 to 10:30 a.m., Saturday, July 12-Aug. 2. Another section of this class meets from 9:30 to 10:30 a.m., Saturday, Aug. 9- Sept. 6 - Note: no class Aug. 30). Use course ID NHE S13 008 when registering.

Facercise: Facercise is a series of synergistic facial exercises that can help you strengthen and tone your facial muscles to give you an improved, toned and younger looking face. You'll be led through a series of facial exercises by a trained coach who will help you learn these exercises so you can continue to improve your facial tone and appearance long after the workshop has ended. bring a mat or towel. An instructional DVD will be available for purchase at the class. The cost of this class is $59. The class meets from 9 to 11 a.m., Saturday, July 19. Use course I: NHE S71 007 when registering.

Women's Self Defense: One out of every three women will be a victim of sexual assault in her lifetime and statistics show that the greatest number of rapes occur at home. This women's self-defense class will cover such topics as myths of self defense, verbalization, your body as a self-defense tool, pressure points and sexual assault awareness/resistance measures. This class includes a lecture and an hour of hands-on technique lessons. This class meets from 7 to 9 p.m., Tuesday, July 22. Use course ID NPL S14 008 when registering. The cost of this class is $10.

Find Your Home Style: Your home reflects who you are and what you like. This hands-on class will help to identify your style and develop your taste in color and design so that you home is truly you, and picture perfect. The cost of this class is $39. This class meets from 7 to 9 p.m., Wednesday, July 23 and 30 at the Decorator Nook at 64 N. Williams St. in Crystal Lake. Use course ID NHG S26 007 when registering.

Animal Communication - Advanced: Continue the journey in Animal Communication and expand on what you have learned from the Animal Communication - Beginners class. You'll experience exercises and meditations to open the channels to both send and receive messages from the animals via thoughts, images, feelings and messages. You may bring photos of your pets to class for a learning exercise. Prerequisite: Read any book on animal communication. To register, you must have taken the Animal Communication - Beginners class at MCC. This class meets from 7 to 10 p.m., Wednesday, July 16. The cost of this class is $79. Use course ID NAN S05 007 when registering.

Save Your Pet's Life: Learn what to do, and just as importantly, what not to do when your furry friend faces a life-threatening emergency. Veterinarian Candi Langdoc of Pet Vet Clinic in Huntley provides vital information for all who own or handle dogs and cats. Learn how to deal with common illnesses, get up-to-date medical information and learn first aid techniques, including animal CPR and treating wounds. The cost of this class is $35. The class meets from 9 a.m. to 12:30 p.m., Saturday, July 19. Use course ID NAN S06 006 when registering.

Why Do My Pets Do That? Why does Kitty suddenly refuse to use the litter box? What causes Doggie to tear up the house when you are gone? Find out what triggers your pet's baffling behaviors and learn how to rectify destructive or negative behavior, as well as how to improve your pet's quality of life. A question-and-answer period will address your individual problems. The cost of this class is $35. The class meets from 9 a.m. to 12:30 p.m., Saturday, Aug. 2. Use course ID NAN S07 008 when registering.

GED to College: Attention, all GED graduates.

Now that you have your certificate, it's the right time t plan for college. To help you get started, McHenry County College is offering "GED to College" information sessions from 6 to 7:30 p.m. Tuesday, July 15 and 10-11:30 a.m. Tuesday, July 22. Choose the time that works for you. The sessions will meet in room A119.

In the GED to College information session, you will learn specific degree and certificate requirements, start the financial aid process, get application and enrollment assistance and tour the MCC campus.

Volunteers sought: McHenry County College's Office of Adult Education is seeking volunteers to teach reading or English as a Second Language. Prospective volunteers are asked to observe a literacy class first, and then to attend one of the orientation sessions that are held throughout the year.

The next volunteer orientation is scheduled for 7 p.m. Tuesday, July 15 in Building A, Room 342. Attending five Basic Training workshops also is required. A literacy tutor does not have to speak a second language to teach in the adult education literacy program.

The free basic training provides the information and skills needed to work with literacy students. Flexible work schedules are provided to meet people's busy schedules, including those who are retired or working full time. Call Jane Brehm at (815) 455-8542 to schedule an observation and to reserve a seat at the July 15 orientation.

Business Training

The McHenry County College Shah Center is offering several courses this summer for corporate employees and managers including time management, finance and leadership. The courses will be held at the Shah Center, 4100 W. Shamrock Lane in McHenry. Time Challenged: "Time Challenged," a time management course, will teach individuals how to turn time wasters into opportunities for increased productivity. The benefits of this program will also help people strike a work and life balance. This course will meet from from 1 to 5 p.m. on Tuesday and Thursday, July 8 and 10. The fee for this course is $159 including all materials. Use course ID NTL S09 002 when registering.

Intro to Keyboarding: "Intro to Keyboarding" is a four-week keyboarding course designed to provide participants with basic computer keyboard knowledge and practice to develop their typing skills. A baseline Word Per Minute (WPM) time test at the beginning and end of the course will record progress. Practice outside of the classroom is necessary for skill building. This course will meet from 9 a.m. to noon Tuesday and Thursday, July 15 through Aug. 7. The fee for this course is $359 including all materials. Use course ID NTC S28 002 when registering.

Frontline Leadership Series: A "DDI Frontline Leadership Series" will prepare new frontline leaders with the fundamental leadership skills that are critical to success in today's highly competitive environment. The featured modules are: Essentials of Leadership, Getting Started as a New Leader, Coaching for Success, Coaching for Improvement, Managing Performance Problems, Setting Performance, Expectations, and Delegating for Results. This course will meet from 6 to 9:30 p.m. on Tuesdays July 15-Aug. 26. Fee for an individual module is $149 and the series fee is $885. Use course ID NTL S24 001 when registering.

Finance for Non-Financial Managers: Finance for Non-Financial Managers is a course facilitated by an area bank vice president and will focus on the manager who does not have a financial background but has budgeting responsibilities. The participant will gain an understanding of balance sheets and income statements. The course will end with tying the two together with ratios. This course is offered from 9 a.m. to noon or 6 to 9 p.m. Wednesdays, July 16 and 23. The fee for this course is $159. Use course ID NTE S80 001 for the morning class and course ID: NTE S80 002 for the 6 to 9 p.m. class.
