Volunteers sought: McHenry County College's Office of Adult Education is seeking volunteers to teach reading or English as a Second Language. Prospective volunteers are asked to observe a literacy class first, and then to attend one of the orientation sessions that are held throughout the year.

The next volunteer orientation is scheduled for 7 p.m. Tuesday, July 15 in Building A, Room 342. Attending five Basic Training workshops also is required. A literacy tutor does not have to speak a second language to teach in the adult education literacy program.

The free basic training provides the information and skills needed to work with literacy students. Flexible work schedules are provided to meet people's busy schedules, including those who are retired or working full time. Call Jane Brehm at (815) 455-8542 to schedule an observation and to reserve a seat at the July 15 orientation.

This project was made possible in part by a grant awarded by the Illinois State Library, a Division of the Office of Secretary of State, using state funds designated for literacy.
