Support meeting offered
The monthly meeting for the DuPage County chapter of Parents Of Murdered Children is scheduled for 6 to 8 p.m. Thursday in Wheaton. This month's speaker is Suzanne W. Keenon, of the Fox Valley Institute, who will speak about the grieving process and couples' grief. The group meets the second Thursday of each month in the DuPage County state's attorney's office at 503 N. County Farm Road, Wheaton. Watch for closings
Route 47 in Elburn will be closed to through traffic for up to seven days at the railroad crossing just south of North Street beginning Friday. Union Pacific Railroad will be working to correct railroad and roadway elevation. Downtown businesses will remain open and will be accessible by crossing First Street. Kansas Street in Elburn is closed to through traffic between Main and First streets until about Friday to allow for soil remediation at Stover Brothers Trucking, 109 E. Kansas St.
Benedictine raises tuition
Students at Benedictine University in Lisle will pay 4 percent more in tuition for the 2008-09 academic year, an increase recently approved by the board of trustees. Starting this fall, full-time undergraduate students will pay $10,800 in tuition per semester or $21,600 for the school year. Fees will rise to $710 from $510. Since 2001, annual tuition increases at Benedictine had averaged 5 percent.
Geneva Garden Club show
Geneva Garden Club presents "Floral Expressions: Sharing Geneva's Charm," from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. Saturday at 402 S. Sixth St. in Geneva. Enjoy floral displays, programs, demonstrations, a home tour, tea room, bazaar and plant sale. Celebrate Scandinavia
A Scandinavian Midsummer Celebration will be held Sunday at Good Templar Park at 528 East Side Drive, east of the Fox River and a quarter mile north of Route 38, in Geneva. A Swedish breakfast will be served at 9 a.m., a worship service is at 10 a.m. and festivities begin at 11 a.m. The festival will feature Scandinavian crafts, Swedish food, Maypole raising and dancing, the Swedish American Children's Choir, traditional Nordic dancers, a Viking encampment, storytelling and the Swedish Cottage Walk (the tour costs $5). General admission is $5. Children younger than 12 and guests wearing traditional Scandinavian costumes are admitted free.
