Briefs: Woman ticketed in crash
Christina W. McCratic, 40, the Cary woman accused of running into a 15-year-old Crystal Lake boy with her car Monday, has been issued a $75 ticket for failing to yield to a pedestrian in the crosswalk, police said. The unidentified boy was struck by a vehicle around 5:35 p.m. near Oak Valley Drive and Three Oaks Road, officials said. A medical helicopter flew the boy to Advocate Good Samaritan Hospital in Downers Grove after he was treated at the scene by Cary paramedics. Fire officials say the boy's prognosis is good and that his injuries aren't as serious as previously thought.
Firefighters host fundraiser
The Hampshire Fire Protection District will host a fundraiser from 4 to 7 p.m. Saturday. The fire district's brat dinner and open house will be held at the Hampshire Fire Station, 202 Washington St. The dinner costs $5 for adults and $2.50 for children. Firefighters will give rides in their 1931 fire engine and conduct firefighting demonstrations. The proceeds go toward fire and medical equipment. Call (847) 683-2629.
Police memorial slated
The Elgin Police Department will host their annual police officer memorial service at 2:30 p.m. Monday by the flag poles in front of the department, 151 Douglas Ave. The service will include a wreath presentation and 21-gun salute. It is held annually to honor police officers who were killed in the line of duty locally and across the country.
Violence counseling offered
The Community Crisis Center in Elgin now provides domestic violence counseling services for northwestern Kane County. Counseling is provided by a licensed professional counselor and is available to adult and adolescent females. All of our domestic violence services are at no cost to victims. Experts say one in every four women will experience domestic violence in her lifetime and an estimated 1.3 million women are victims of physical assault by an intimate partner each year. Woman dies after car crash
An Elgin woman involved in a crash in Streamwood Friday has died of her injuries. Police said 73-year-old Virginia Retchlag's car spun out of because of rainy and wet conditions and collided with a motorist from Hoffman Estates along Route 59. Retchlag died of her injuries at Elgin's Sherman Hospital Sunday.
