Leblebijian stars in Prospect win
Jason Leblebijian used his bat to score Prospect's first run and his legs to score the decisive run in a 4-3 Mid-Suburban League baseball crossover Friday at Fremd.
Leblebijian homered in the first for Prospect (15-12). Then with two out in the seventh, Leblebijian (2-for-3, 2 RBI) was on third when he attempted to steal home.
Interference was called on the catcher on the pitch to the plate and Leblebijian scored the tie-breaking run. John Larson got the win with 1½ innings of relief and Tim Scanlan was 2-for-3 with an RBI.
Ryan Shober went 3-for-4 and Mike Tauchman and Nick Addison went 2-for-4 for Fremd (16-8).
Barrington 12, Hersey 4: Tim Conroy and Gus Handler homered as Barrington (16-12) broke a 2-2 tie with a 6-run fourth in the MSL crossover.
Handler had a 2-run homer in the second and a 2-run single. Conroy hit a 3-run shot in the fourth. Mark Minner had 2 hits and 2 RBI and Connor Jenkins had 2 hits and an RBI for the Broncos.
Winner Robby McDonald (2-0) allowed 3 hits and 1 earned run with 4 strikeouts and 3 walks in 3 innings.
Chris James went 3-for-4 with 2 doubles and 2 RBI for Hersey (16-14).
BG 7, Conant 2: James Bakun doubled and tripled and James Hurley tripled and had 2 RBI as Buffalo Grove (9-14) broke a 4-game losing streak in the MSL crossover.
Conant (8-15) managed just 1 hit as Nick Ciaccio got the victory for the Bison.
Softball
Meadows 2, Stevenson 1: Senior Caitlin Adair went 2-for-3 with an RBI in the third inning as host Meadows (13-15) received a 6-hitter from senior ace Carissa Stewart (10-13) with 6 strikeouts and 1 walk.
The Mustangs also had fielder's choice RBI from Angela Mahanna in the first inning.
"Connie Porters had a great game at third base and so did Maryclare Loughery at first," said Mustangs coach Tony Wolanski.
The Patriots scored their run in the top of the sixth and moments later tried to get the tying run across.
However, Mustangs second baseman Bonnie Weglarz made a diving stop of a grounder, and with no play at first, she threw home to freshman catcher Kelly Keyzer, who made the tag on the runner trying to score to end the inning.
Junior shortstop Maddy Urban also went 1-for-3 for Meadows with a double and 1 run.
Fremd 8, York 3: Fremd finished its finest regular season in school history with a 26-3 record as sophomore Lena Brottman (19-2) threw a 5-hitter with 5 strikeouts and no walks.
The host Vikings belted 17 hits, led by sophomores Kristine Werling (3-for-5, 3 RBI), Kelly Voigt (2-for-3, RBI), Alexa Cinquegrani (3-for-4, RBI, double, walk), Jenny Schneider (2-for-4, RBI) and Tess Dinterman (3-for-4).
Maine W. 4, Maine S. 1: Emily Ott threw a 4-hitter with 5 strikeouts and no walks as Maine West (22-5) won the Central Suburban League crossover. Margo Ehorn went 2-for-3 for the Warriors.
