Briefs: Bird's nest causes blaze in Grayslake

An early Monday morning house fire in Grayslake was sparked by a bird's nest in a light fixture, authorities said. No injuries were reported from the blaze at 243 S. Alleghany Road, Grayslake Fire Protection District officials said. Firefighters found heavy smoke coming from the roof and eaves of the home after they were summoned by its occupants at 12:09 a.m. Officials said it took about 20 minutes to extinguish the fire, but crews remained on the scene for roughly three hours. Officials said the house sustained significant damage.

MCC to drop stadium plan

The McHenry County College board of trustees is expected to terminate plans to build the $26 million baseball stadium and Health, Wellness and Athletic Complex at its Thursday night meeting. The project had been on hold ever since the Crystal Lake City Council voted against the project in October. The school previously approved the plans in May, but the actual construction was contingent on the city council's vote.
