Baseball

Spring camps: Elmhurst Youth Baseball, Elmhurst Extreme Baseball and Fastball USA are teaming up for a spring throwing/pitching camp for 7- to 12-year-olds from 6 to 8 p.m. Friday and 4 to 6 p.m. Saturday. The camp, held at Fastball USA in Elmhurst, will be run by a Fastball USA instructor with assistance from Elmhurst Extreme 12-year-old team and Blackbelt pitching students.

Youth competition: Roselle Rampage will hold a free Aquafina Major League Baseball Pitch, Hit & Run Competition for area youth from 4 to 6:30 p.m. May 4 at Alexian Field, home of the Schaumburg Flyers.

Competitors are divided into four age divisions: 7 and 8, 9 and 10, 11 and 12, 13 and 14, and have a chance to advance through four levels of competition, including team championships at major league ballparks and the national finals at the 2008 MLB All-Star Game.

The individual pitching, hitting and running champions, along with the all-around champion in each age group at the local competition, will be awarded and advance to the sectional.

Basketball

Spring league: Carmel Catholic High School will offer a 2008 Boys Spring Basketball League at the school, located at One Carmel Parkway, Mundelein. The league is designed to give sixth- to eighth-grade boys an opportunity to prepare for the upcoming season by playing competitive basketball against players form Lake and Cook counties. The teams will have their own coach and play nine to 12 games over a five-day period. Grade levels will be mixed and teams will be selected after evaluation night Sunday. The league will be run by the Carmel men's basketball staff and its players. The tentative schedule is:

• Sunday -- 5 to 6 p.m., evaluation drill work; 6 to 7 p.m., evaluation games

• April 20, 27 and May 4 -- 5 to 7 p.m., league games

• May 18 -- 5 to 7 p.m. league tournament and awards.

Cheerleading

Team openings: The CCA Titans competitive all-star cheerleading teams are open for the 2008-09 season to all girls entering kindergarten through 12th grade. Previous experience is welcome, but not required. The Titans maintain a no-cut policy for girls entering kindergarten through ninth grade, so everyone in that age group will be placed on a team.

CCA teams will be formed at the end of May and practice starts in June. Two clinics, one in April and one in May, will be offered for girls interested in improving their skills before next season.

Hockey

Adult league: The Kenosha Adult Hockey Club, an adult no-check league, is open to teams and individual players who would like to participate in men's and women's summer hockey leagues. KAHC is a USA Hockey-affiliated league for players 18 and older. The summer league offers a 12-game schedule with all games on Sundays (except Mother's Day, Memorial Day weekend, and Independence Day weekend).

In addition to men's elite, competitive and recreational divisions, KAHC is offering a separate women's league for the first time. A two referee system is used, and all officials are USA Hockey certified. Summer play begins April 27 and continues through Aug. 3. Discounts for early payment of ice fees are available. Swimming

CATS Aquatics tryouts: Registration and tryouts for the CATS Aquatics Swim Team spring/summer sessions will take place from 6 to 7:30 p.m. Monday at Vernon Hills High School, 145 N. Lakeview Parkway. Online registration will be available or attend the walk-in registration from 6 to 7:30 p.m. Tuesday near the pool at Libertyville High School, 708 W. Park Ave. Several swim sessions will be offered. Sign up for one or all of the sessions. Session one begins Wednesday.

The CATS Aquatics Swim Team provides swimmers age 5 through college age to develop at all levels of competitive and developmental swimming. Tennis

Summer leagues: Celeste Pregracke of the Court Aces will run summer tennis leagues again this year. The singles leagues have a flexible schedule and can be played anytime during the week. The doubles play at a set time Wednesdays or Thursdays at HeatherRidge depending on the level of play. Partners will be provided, or participants may bring their own. Play will start the middle of May and end the first week of August. A party and round robin end the season. The entry deadline is May 1. For more information, call Celeste at (847) 662-5038.
