Briefs: Schaumburg store robbed

A man carrying a handgun robbed a store Thursday evening on the 500 block of South Roselle Road in Schaumburg, stealing an unknown amount of cash, police said. The robber placed a pack of gum on the counter with a $5 bill; the clerk opened the cash drawer, looked up and saw the handgun pointed at him. The man, 20-25 years of age, took a handful of money and fled on foot.

Free concert on Sunday

The Arlington Heights Community Concert Band will perform a free concert at 3 p.m. Sunday at the Forest View Educational Center, 2121 S. Goebbert Road in Arlington Heights. The concert will feature music from "Miss Saigon," "Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon," "Into the West," and "Horse on the Prairie." Advance tickets are available at the District 214 Community Education office in the Forest View Educational Center from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. through Friday or by calling (847) 718-7702 during the same hours. Any remaining tickets will be available at the door.

Concert raises $12,000

A benefit matinee Sunday of "Jesus Christ Superstar" at John Hersey High School raised more than $12,000 to go to building a school in rural Angola. Hersey students Carina Muir and Mollie King will be in Angola from June 24 to July 15 with RISE International to help build the school and conduct educational workshops for teachers and village leaders on the importance of educating and empowering girls.

Vehicle sticker deadline

Mount Prospect vehicle stickers must be on display starting today. Police will issue a citation for not having an up-to-date sticker, which results in a fine. Cost for a new sticker, which is $36 for passenger vehicles, will now come with a penalty fee for not buying it before the deadline. The penalty will not apply to new residents or to residents who purchase replacement vehicles on or after today. In both cases, you'll have 30 days to purchase your sticker.
