VFW Post 2164 to host a fish fry

The Wheaton VFW Post 2164 will hold its weekly fish fry from 5 to 9 p.m. Friday at Papworth Street and Geneva Road, Wheaton. Dinners include a choice of fish, shrimp or chicken. For details, call (630) 668-8756.

Park district offers tennis and fencing

The Warrenville Park District is taking registration for these programs at the park district, 3S260 Warren Ave., Warrenville.

Fencing lessons will be offered from 1:30 to 3:30 p.m. Saturdays, March 22 to April 26. The fee is $60 for residents, $65 for others.

Spring tennis lessons are from 12:30 to 2 p.m. Saturdays beginning March 29. The fee is $55 for residents, $60 for others.

Battle of the Books winner announced

Longfellow Elementary School students on the Battle of the Books team made history by winning this year's event sponsored by the Wheaton Public Library after a series of eight meets. Longfellow's team defeated 14 other teams for the championship. The team, coached by Meg Anderson, Jane Oviatt and Katherine Anderson, included Julia Anderson, Wyatt Anderson, Jona Fuller, Jaimie Patterson, Grace Richards, Ethan Stahler, Meredith Wall and Luci Whiting.

Legal Warriors do well at tourney

Wheaton Academy's legal Warriors defeated both its opponents at the Northwest Suburban Invitational Tournament, just missing a place in the top three competitors in the field of 26 teams. Team members are captain Libby Baker; seniors Heather Dede, Dom Sessa and Kim Loewen; and sophomore Ashley Pivaronas.

PartyLite donates to Family Shelter

PartyLite Gifts of Carol Stream recently donated $4,000 to the Family Shelter Service, which assists families and victims of domestic violence. The company plans to make more donations to agencies in the Glendale Heights and Carol Stream areas.

Glen Crest teams help raise money

Glen Crest Middle School's girls basketball team and boys volleyball team did an emergency fundraiser, Team Up, at the Glen Ellyn school and collected loose change from the students and staff. They were able to collect more than $800 for the victims of the tornadoes in Tennessee, Arkansas and Kentucky via the American Red Cross.
