Briefs: Crash victim improves

An Addison woman's condition was upgraded from serious to good one day after she was hurt in a Geneva car crash. Martha E. Solis, 39, was flown to Advocate Good Samaritan Hospital in Downers Grove after the two-vehicle crash about 7:30 a.m. on Peck Road. She was listed in good condition Friday, a hospital spokeswoman said. The accident remained under investigation, police said.

Youth football sign-up

Tri-City Youth Football Registration will be from 8 a.m. to 1 p.m. today at STC Capital Bank, 46 S. First St., St. Charles. The cost is $400 to play tackle football and $200 for flag. Cheer on dodgeball teams

Watch teams from Geneva High School, the Geneva City Council and the Geneva school board play a dodgeball tournament from 6 to 8 p.m. today in the contest gym at the high school, 416 McKinley Ave. Admission is $1. Proceeds support the high school's Student Council's charity work.

Science Olympiad winners

Several students were recognized this week at West Chicago Middle School's second annual Science Olympiad. Entrants constructed a Rube Goldberg-style device that could either water a plant or throw a tennis ball 20 feet. In the plant watering division, first place was awarded to the team of Sarah Ratliff and Kaitlyn Tynczuk. Second place went to the team of James Morgan, Luke Smith, Davis Steinbrecher and Ben Stibal. Third place was awarded to the team of Isle Briseno and Pam Campos. In the tennis ball throwing division, first place was awarded to Tony Carroso, second place to the team of Jonathan Cunningham and Dylan Dewey and third place to the team of Rabely Banuelos, Noemi Cinto, Edgar Esteban, Dulce Flore and Zimeon Zenteno.

Soil-water meeting

The Kane-DuPage Soil and Water Conservation District's annual meeting will be at 6 p.m. Feb. 21 at Fishermen's Inn, Route 47 and Main Street, Elburn. Don Roseboom, a hydrologist and stream restoration specialist for the U.S. Geological Survey, will speak after dinner.
