Cross-country skiers can ski by moonlight
Cross-country ski enthusiasts can enjoy skiing by candlelight from 5 to 9 p.m. today and Saturday at the Hollows Conservation Area, 3804 Route 14 in Cary.
Hosted by McHenry County Conservation District. The trail at The Hollows features a 1.3-mile looped, hilly trail that winds through woodland and along a pond.
After some brisk, refreshing exercise, visitors can enjoy hot chocolate and light refreshments with district staff around the roaring campfire.
Skiers must provide their own equipment. Skiers of every level and age are welcome.
The district offers more than 40 miles of cross country ski trails at 14 sites throughout the county that are open sunrise to sunset.
Outdoor enthusiasts can enjoy groomed trails at Glacial Park in Ringwood (6 miles), Hickory Grove in Cary (1.5 miles), The Hollows in Cary (2.75 miles), Marengo Ridge in Marengo (4.5 miles), Prairieview Education Center in Crystal Lake (4 miles), and Rush Creek in Harvard (3 miles).
