Baseball
Players wanted:ŒThe Chicago North Men's Senior Baseball League, which uses MLB rules, is seeking new players for the 2008 season. There are four age divisions -- 25 and over, 35 and over, 45 and over and 55 and over. The 25- to 30-game season runs from May-September and is played at fields in Des Plaines, Northbrook and Bensenville. The signup deadline is Feb. 28, and the league-wide new player evaluation session will be held at 1 p.m. March 1. The cost is approximately $300 per player for the season.
Players come from the entire Chicago area and have a wide range of baseball backgrounds. Some played college and minor league ball, while others joined straight from the softball field or after a long layoff.

Spring camps:ŒElmhurst Youth Baseball, Elmhurst Extreme Baseball and Fastball USA are teaming up for a spring throwing/pitching camp for 7- to 12-year-olds from 6 to 8 p.m. April 11 and 4 to 6 p.m. April 12. A step-by-step approach to throwing and pitching mechanics will be followed. The camp, held at Fastball USA in Elmhurst, will be run by a Fastball USA instructor with assistance from Elmhurst Extreme 12-year-old team and Blackbelt pitching students.

Baseball/softball
Registration: Barrington Youth Baseball and Softball registration for the 2008 season is now under way. BYB&S offers programs for players from 5 to 17 who are residents of school District 220. The league structure is grade based. Younger players (boys in kindergarten through second grade and girls in kindergarten through fourth grade) are placed with classmates on teams built around their school. Older players are drafted on to teams by coaches. Teams are formed in early March.

Basketball
AAU tryouts:ŒThe Netburners will hold tryouts for boys and girls on Feb. 29 at Birchwood Recreation Center, 435 W. Illinois Ave., Palatine at the following times.
• Fourth- and fifth-grade girls and boys -- 6 to 7 p.m.
• Sixth- and seventh-grade girls and boys -- 7 to 8 p.m.
• Eighth-, ninth- and 10th-grade girls and boys -- 8 to 9 p.m.
The registration fee at door costs $10 or $5 by e-mail before Feb. 27.

Football/cheer
Registration:ŒStreamwood Falcons Football & Cheerleading registration for 2008 will be held from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. March 1 at Park Place Family Recreation Center, 550 S. Park Blvd., Streamwood.
The Streamwood Falcons traveling football program gives participants the opportunity to learn how to play football and cheer in a structured environment. Participants learn the value of teamwork, sportsmanship, physical fitness and athletic competition. The football program is open to ages 5- to 13-year-old players, and the cheer program includes those in kindergarten through eighth grade. The season begins in early August and runs though the end of October, excluding playoffs.
A minimum $100 payment per child is required at registration. The total fees are $255, which includes $70 of total refunds at the end of the year. The program is also open to nonresidents of Streamwood.

Golf
General meeting: S&H Seniors Golf League will hold a general meeting for league members at 9 a.m. March 4 at the CRC Senior Center, 505 N. Springinsguth Road, Schaumburg.
The meeting will cover subjects that will be part of the upcoming golf season Topics will be preliminary budget, trophies and awards, golfers guide and necessary topics. Suggestions and ideas will be discussed and listened to by those attending.

Mixed golf league:ŒThe Monday twilight mixed "fun golf" league is seeking new golfers. The league plays at Old Orchard Country Club from May through August with tee times starting at 4:15 p.m. Weekly play is not mandatory, and discounted greens fees are available for Prospect Heights non-residents. There are contests each week, and an annual tournament in September at another course with cash prizes awarded based on handicapped foursome performance.

Hockey
Tryouts:ŒConant High School Cougars Hockey will hold spring tryouts for both the junior varsity and varsity teams from 9 to 10 p.m. March 13 at the Hoffman Estates Ice Arena, 1685 W. Higgins Road, Hoffman Estates. The tryout fee is $150 (nonrefundable), which goes toward the total $575 fee for the spring season. These tryouts are only for students who attend Conant, Schaumburg or Hoffman high schools. The deadline to register for the March 13 tryout is Feb. 28.
