Holiday Lights Contest results: The Village of Lake in the Hills Parks and Recreation Department has announced that its first Holiday Lights Decorating contest, held on Dec. 18, was a huge success. More than 20 fabulous entries were received. The winning was at 340 Council Trail.

You can see pictures of the winning display on the Web site www.lith.org. Thank you to everyone that participated in this year's event.

Ice Skating in the Park: Are you a winter person?

The Lake in the Hills Parks & Recreation Department urges you to bundle up, grab your ice skates and a thermos of hot chocolate and head to Sunset or Stoneybrook parks to enjoy the outdoor ice skating. Rinks open to the public beginning Parks are open from sunrise to sunset. Green flags indicate that the ice is ready for skating (no hockey, please.)

For youth

Tater Tot Playdates: Too cold to go outside and play? No problem.

Join the Lake in the Hills Parks and Recreation Department to connect with other moms, dads and caregivers while your little ones make friends and have fun playing inside. Gym mats and limited toys will be available. Feel free to bring your child's favorite toy.

The upcoming playtimes are from 9:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. Jan. 29 in the Village Hall multipurpose room for kids up to 5 years old. Fee is $2 per child for both residents and non-residents.

Infant Massage: Parents, learn some great ways to soothe and nurture your children in a gentle and positive environment with infant massage.

This program, brought to you by the Lake in the Hills Parks & Recreation Department, along with instructor Jennifer Crick, contributes to development and growth of your infant. This class also helps increase communication and deepens the bond between you and your baby.

Bring blankets to lay baby on and to use in positioning techniques. Be sure to wear comfortable, light clothing to class.

This class is designed for newborns to pre-walkers and held at the Village Hall from 5:30 to 6:30 p.m. Session 1: Fridays, Feb. 1-15. Resident fee is $35; nonresident fee is $40.

Preschool Gymnastics: The Lake in the Hills Parks and Recreation Department is looking for little gymnasts. We offer a 40-minute, theme-based introductory and progressive skills class geared toward girls and boys ages 4-5 years old. This class is designed for preschoolers using age-appropriate-sized equipment to develop balance, strength, flexibility, coordination and spatial awareness. They'll learn floor (tumbling), vault, bars, balance beam and trampoline skills along with other fun activities that help develop gross motor and cooperation skills.

Class is scheduled from 10 to 10:40 a.m. Fridays beginning Jan. 25 in the Village Hall Multipurpose room. Resident rate is $64; nonresident rate is $74.

Youth Gymnastics: The Lake in the Hills Parks & Recreation Department is looking for gymnasts in kindergarten through second grade. This is a one-hour progressive class that introduces and develops beginning gymnastic skills through intermediate skills and combinations while following the USAG recommendations and guidelines for progression and safety. Students develop balance, strength, flexibility, coordination and spatial awareness while tumbling, vaulting, learning bar skills, balance beam and trampoline on basic gymnastics equipment.

Join USAG Safety Certified instructor Jeanie Lebel-Rabitoy from 4:30 to 5:30 p.m. or from 5:30 to 6:30 p.m. p.m. Wednesdays, beginning Jan. 23 at Martin Elementary School, Room 420. Resident rate is $72, non-resident rate is $82.

Dad and Me Painting Pottery: Kids, team up with dad to make a one-of-a-kind gift for mom. Join the Lake in the Hills Parks & Recreation Department, along with instructors from Handmade on Main, as we paint and decorate a beautiful picture frame for those special photos as well as a vase to give on Mother's Day.

All materials are included along with a gift tag to write down a special message to mom.

Class is scheduled from 11 a.m. to noon Feb. 2. Resident rate is $24; nonresident rate is $29. Class will be held at Handmade on Main, 320 S. Main St., Algonquin.

Daddy/Daughter Date Night: Hey, dads. Create a lasting memory by treating your daughter(s) to a night that will be forever cherished. Enjoy a delicious meal and dance the night away. We'll capture the evening with a picture, a craft, and a manicure. All daughters will take home a treat bag too.

This special event, brought to you by the Lake in the Hills Parks & Recreation Department, will be held at the Village Hall from 5 to 7:30 p.m. Feb. 10. Registration deadline is Feb. 4.

Resident rate is $35 ($20 for each additional daughter) and nonresident rate is $2 ($24 for each additional daughter).
