Huntley hosts Christmas event:
Huntley is hosting the second annual Christmas in the Square from 1 to 7 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 5, in the village's historic town square. The event features free hayrides, children's stories, and kids' crafts from 3 to 7 p.m. Santa's arrival and the lighting of the Christmas tree on the square is set for 4:45 p.m. Santa will take pictures with kids from 5 to 7 p.m. in the gazebo. The Friends of the Huntley Area Public Library will hold a book sale from 1 to 7 p.m. Free hot chocolate and cookies will be provided. Visit huntleyjaycees.org or call (847) 802-9280.
Holiday time in Algonquin:
Algonquin invites you and your family to its Holidays on the Fox, which will be held from 4 to 5 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 5, at Riverfront Park. The free party includes the tree lighting ceremony, a candy cane hunt, a gingerbread house demonstration and cookies and cocoa. As well, the Dundee Crown High School jazz band and chorale ensemble will perform and Santa will also make an appearance. Free parking is available in nearby lots and on city streets.
Legislative forums:
On Monday, Dec. 7, seniors, caregivers and their advocates will discuss federal and state issues concerning aging at two legislative forums: 8:30 a.m. at Pottawatomie Community Center, 8 North Ave., St. Charles; and 1:30 p.m. at Senior Services Associates, 110 W. Woodstock, Crystal Lake. Registration starts 30 minutes earlier. The agenda will include: a review of state legislative accomplishments in 2009; elder rights and long-term care ombudsman programs and other funding issues; updates on health care, Medicare and prescription drug programs; and status of information and assistance services.
